The Peak District

The Peak District is an upland area in England at the southern end of the Pennines. It is mostly in northern Derbyshire, but also includes parts of CheshireGreater ManchesterStaffordshire and Yorkshire. An area of great diversity, it is split into the northern Dark Peak, where most of the moorland is found and the geology is gritstone, and the southern White Peak, where most of the population lives and the geology is mainly limestone.

The Peak District National Park became the first national park in the United Kingdom in 1951. With its proximity to the cities of ManchesterStoke-on-TrentDerby and Sheffield and easy access by road and rail, it attracts millions of visitors every year.

My Home

The Peak District is my home. I grew up here and it will always continue to play a significant role in my exsitence, here on earth.

Having grown up in the Peak District all my life, I will always regard this place as ‘Home’.

The Peak District is a place I can seek solitude, a place that always allows me to unwind and connect with myself once more.

Life is tough and my job (like most people’s) demands a lot from me. Therefore to be in such a place is always a must and high on my ‘to do' list.

From an early age, I would happily embrace my beautiful surroundings. Whatever the weather, you would often find me outside, exploring and enjoying a new adventure. Often with friends, sometimes just me in a 'world of my own’. My world, a world that always played host to the best adventures and what all the best adventures are built around. A dream, a vision of creating something new and unique.

Growing up, I used the Peak District as ‘my playground’, somewhere I could utilise to train on my bike, run freely across open moorland, hike for miles and of course enjoy passions like photography, as well as the beautiful, physical landscape it presents. Whatever the weather, I would be happy outdoors, enjoying the moment and simply just taking it all in.

My Playground

Now that I have moved away and live in the Netherlands, its appeal is even greater for me. On my return, I want to continually explore, embrace and enjoy all of its natural beauty. Doing the many things I enjoy, the things that help shape me as a person. Like cycling the narrow, winding country roads or hiking across the open landscapes. It offers the best feeling of all...that feeling of being at peace.

The older I get the more I appreciate the finer details in life and this definitely allows me to be humble in my thoughts and truly thankful for what I have in life and what I have achieved so far. Without doubt, this place is beautiful. I call it 'Gods Country' and I really do appreciate all that is presented before me. The landscapes, the wildlife, the buildings and people are all unique and special in their own way.

Special Place

The Peak District is certainly a wonderful place for me and I would also think it would appeal to any potential visitors. Whether that might be budding photographers ready to capture the scenic beauty all around, adventure seekers looking to cimb, bike and run, or simply people who just fancy the scenic drive along the many miles of spectacular roads.

In the years to come I will continue to visit this wonderful place and continue to document my thoughts and experiences within the blog section of this website and also with my photography.

We all have a bucket list in life, highighting the many things we aspire to do. If the Peak District isn't on your list, then it should be, as a visit will definitely not disappoint.

...and of course the surrounding areas. It is easily accessible from the local airports of Manchester, East Midlands and further afield from Birmingham.

Within close proximity to major cities it is also accessible by car or by train. Making it the perfect location to simply get away from it all.

Here are a selection of images from the Peak District. They are taken from all around the area, showing the beauty of both the Dark and White Peak areas.

The majority of these images are either taken on my Smartphone or DSLR camera.
