Quad Lock Sports Armband Review

Personal notes and stories from the Great Outdoors..jpg

I am really delighted to have another opportunity to work again with Quad Lock and the chance to review and share my views on more of their amazing products.

Last time, Quad Lock based out in Australia, kindly sent me the Quad Lock Bike mount system, which seamlessly attaches to your cycle. I was more than happy to put this great product through its paces on my regular daily commute to work and additional weekend cycling adventures, around the Netherlands.

There was no doubt, in my mind this nifty bit of kit was the perfect addition to my bike, as it not only allowed me to securely mount my Smartphone and its additional navigation functions in a convenient place. It was also very smart looking and hugely reliable.

You can read that review here.

On this particular occasion, I was sent the very handy running armband, which would become a great addition to my running experiences, in the local area.

I love running

For me, running always provides a great sense of freedom, purpose and personal challenge. I love running and everything that accompanies it, even the pain. While running I do enjoy listening to music or inspiring and motivating podcasts, this is something I really enjoy, as it tends to help you focus your mind. Distract you from elements that are telling you to give up and hopefully push you to achieve more and more.

Running this way inevitably does lead to one or two difficulties. I have continually struggled with where to put my phone, and putting it in a convenient position or place, has often been a challenge.

Having a device with me, not only means I can be contacted, in an emergency, but it allows me to not only listen, and distract me from the pain and suffering runs can often bring, but it enables me to record my route via my Strava account.

Over the years, I have tried many different types of running accessories, from a series of full armbands, which can be practical, but do get too hot and sweaty, to lightweight running belts that fit firmly around the waist, but inevitable can become annoying as you often overload them, with keys etc, resulting in them moving up and down, as you take each running stride.

This initiative product and unique design, was great to view up close, and I was very excited to be able to test it out. All I needed was some fine weather, a chance to put on the running shoes and find an appropriate location to go for a run.

I think it is a great product - ideal for any runner

At first glance, it looks really eye catching decked out in the iconic black and blue Quad Lock colours.

It is incredibly sleek piece of kit and it is well designed, with minimalistic features. I was impressed with just how robust and strong the armband was, especially when the phone was securely mounted in it. The quality was there to be seen and it was a lot better than anything else I had tried before.

In the compact pack you get the armband, which is made from a strong, robust elasticated material, that conveniently and comfortable slides onto your arm. Once moved into the right position, it can be tightened and fits firmly into place. This is easily done, by simply pulling on the strap to tighten and then it is securely locks it into position.

Once in position, you attach your device, which is already mounted in the Quad Lock case, and with a convenient, simple twist, it locks firmly into place and it will not move, as you begin to move.

During activity, the strap remains tight to the arm, and the phone remains about an inch away from the arm. I found this feature is incredibly practical and useful, as the device does not come into contact with the arm and this subsequently avoids any unnecessary sweating, like you might find in other full armbands, available on the market.

Out on the run I could attach my headphones, listen freely to music and the phone did not wobbly as I moved my arms up and down. The strap is light and ultimately the mounted phone is too. Even during fast running or sweaty moments, the band remained firmly in place on my arm and did it slip from its original position.

The Quad Lock system also has a waterproof poncho available to buy. This serves it purpose very well, as it firmly fits over the phone screen and keeps the unit nice and dry, especially when the weather closes in.

Just to note, I have a poncho originally bought for my old Smasung S7 Smartphone, but this poncho is not compatible and does not fit on my Samsung S9. This is the only down side and the fact that you will need to buy a new one each time you change your phone. The waterproof poncho is really good as it protects the screen from potential scratching and waterproofs the display, allowing you to use the screen in the rain. I have only used the poncho a couple of times, out on the bike and it worked really well, even when the rain begins to fall.

The poncho can be viewed and purchased here.

Conclusion

There is no doubt in my mind this is yet another good product made by Quad Lock and one that is very reliable, strong and very sturdy, and it also looks good on your arm.

Since using the armband I have been suitably impressed and have not used my alternative armband or belt. The Quad Lock unit does everything it said it would do and I have been delighted with how it has responded and performed throughout activities.

It is also in-keeping with the other Quad Lock products I have, especially through design and build quality. Their products are very consistent and I really do feel, you get what you pay for.

Another great addition is how all Quad Lock units are easily transferable between the mount on the bike and on the arm band. Their twist and click approach is very practical and unique!

Would I recommend it?

Yes, I would.

I do think it is a great product and well worth your money. It is extremely durable, stylish and withstood everything I put it up to. I feel it will last the test of time and will perform well. It follows the consistency and quality of other Quad Lock products, and I will be very keen to see what the designers come up with next.
