5 Fun Family Spring Activities

With the Easter holidays now behind us and the month of May fast approaching Spring is most certainly in the air.

There is no doubt, Spring is an excellent time of year for us all, so it is time to shake off those winter blues finally, get outside and even try something new. Take a look at some of these Springtime suggestions. As a result, and following my interests for all things outdoors. I have sourced some great Spring activities that will have you and the kids outside and making the most of the fine Spring sunshine and fresh air.

If you are anything like me, I find it very difficult to stay inside for long periods of time and continually find all of the best activities can be enjoyed outside in the garden or your local surroundings. Allowing you to embrace and enjoy the world in its natural form.

Fly a Kite

Flying a Kite is such a lot of fun, it is a great thing to do at any age and something we don’t always necessarily do, as our lives are consumed by more technologically advanced pastimes. Making a kite and then going and flying it is a great activity to do on your own, but also as a family. Once completed, and the kite is made. Then go outside and choose an open field or space, run around with the kids to try and get their kite up in the air.

If the conditions are right this is a perfect way to get together, do something new, creative and have some fun.

Capture Spring

Watching Spring, blossom all around you is a wonderful thing to see and experience, but capturing a lasting memory is also pretty worthwhile.

There are many ways you can do this and be creative in your approach. Using a camera is very worthwhile and seeing the natural changes of the seasons through a camera lens is always so good to see.

Painting with simple watercolour paints is also a nice way to capture your surroundings or focus in on the details of Spring, like the weather or flowers. Buying a cheap set of watercolour paints is a good idea and they can easily accompany other extras on a day out in the outdoors. Out on a long walk, I often pack some paints, a small pack of paper and when the opportunities arise - paint away!

Run a 5k

Running a 5k is a really popular and achievable thing to do. I regularly run Parkrun in Rotterdam and it is certainly a fun way for all ages and abilities to come together and enjoy some healthy exercise. Of course, organised runs are great, but they are not necessarily your only means. You can also run and challenge yourself because you can!

Find yourself an appropriate outdoor space and just run. Being creative is also a great way to approach things and I have seen many interesting courses and ideas that have been designed in small gardens. Those involve obstacles, laps and it is a fun way to involve all of the family too.

Get outside and Garden

Now is the time to start planting flowers or vegetables in the backyard or garden. Children and adults love this type of thing and having the chance to get messy in the fresh soil is certainly fun for all the family.

The outdoors space does not need to be that big. In fact, some of the smallest spaces provide many of the best places to crop flowers and vegetables. Once you get started you can enjoy the fruits of your labour and of course, expand your ideas year on year.

Go for a hike

What better way to explore the outdoors than to go on a hike through a forest or along a trail? Walking in the outdoors is a whole lot of fun as it provides not only provides much needed fresh air and exercise. It also provides a wonderful new way to view your surroundings.

Try to stay quiet as you venture through the landscape and see if you can hear (or see) the animals all around you. Listen to bird song, watch the vegetation spring to life as the greenery returns once more.

Of course, these are just a few select ideas and good ways for you and the family to maximise some Springtime fun.

Even despite the current lockdown situation, there are many great activities for you to enjoy and while away the hours.
