Creative Writing Prompts - Trees
Here is the first list of ideas in my series of Creative Writing prompts. The purpose of these writing prompts is to encourage both children and adults to get outside, be inspired by their natural surroundings and start writing.
Trees start us off, as trees are fascinating and a natural feature that continually inspires me either through my writing or my photography.
Appreciating trees is something we should all do, as they are a unique life form that helps provide food, shelter, and natural beauty in the world in which we live.
Preserving their existence is also paramount, as they have not only been here longer than us, but we hope that they will be here for many years to come. So, I encourage you to look through the list of ideas below, put on your walking boots, get outdoors into your local environment, search for some trees, no matter how big or small and use them to develop your writing ideas.

Tree Writing Prompts
Describe your favourite tree using just five sentences. Imagine you grew a tree that stretched up into the clouds and took you to an imaginary world. What does the world look like and what adventures does it fulfil?
If your tree had human characteristics, what would they be? And why?
Imagine you were a lonely tree, positioned at the top of a hill. What would you see from your new home?
Why is it important to conserve trees? Please write a letter to the Woodland Trust or similar explaining why it is essential to look after our trees. Woodland Trust
Imagine you could build the ultimate treehouse. Describe what it looks like and explain how you would use it.
Write a creative story about the life cycle of a tree.
Redwoods are giant trees. Imagine you could live inside one. Describe what this experience would be for us as humans.
Write a story about a leaf. Explain more about its life from the day it is born to the day it falls from the tree.
What would our world be like if there were no trees?
You become lost in the depths of a dark, mysterious forest. The light is closing in, and you start hearing noises in the distance. What happens next?
If trees could talk, what would they say to one another?
If you could plant more trees in our world, where would you choose to plant them?
Write a creative story about the lonely tree.
What if a tree could produce a new variety of fruit. What would it look like, and what would it be called?
Tell us more about your favourite activities to do outdoors among the trees.
Design and write about the ultimate game of hide and seek.
You wander through the misty, wintry woods and stumble across an old cabin. What happens next?
Complete a fact file about animals you might find in the woods?
